Apple has decided to delay the launch of its advanced Siri features, which were originally planned for release in spring 2025. The company says these features need more time for development, especially improvements in personal context awareness and cross-app actions.
Why the Delay?
Apple had announced at WWDC 2024 that a more conversational Siri would be coming to iPhones in 2025. However, a company spokesperson, Jacqueline Roy, has now confirmed that these upgrades will take longer than expected. Apple plans to roll them out “in the coming year.”
What Are These AI Features?
Under the Apple Intelligence initiative, the company has been working on AI-driven features like:
- A smarter Siri that understands personal context better
- The ability to perform tasks across different apps
- Features like rewriting and summarizing emails
Apple’s Internal Concerns
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, top Apple executives, including software head Craig Federighi, have raised concerns that the new AI features do not work as expected in their testing. Some Apple engineers even believe that certain features may need to be rebuilt from scratch or possibly scrapped altogether.
When Will the New Siri Arrive?
A truly modernized, conversational Siri might not be available until iOS 20 at the earliest, which means iPhone users will have to wait longer for the promised improvements.
For now, Apple continues to enhance Siri with smaller updates like “Type to Siri”, better product knowledge, and integration with ChatGPT. However, the biggest AI upgrade for iPhones is now expected in 2026.
